Training Opportunities

The registry’s aim is twofold; firstly, to display information on training in digital curation that is currently available in an accessible and clearly segmented format, and second, to allow for the subsequent analysis of the data collected that will contribute to the development of the DigCurV curriculum framework.

After completion of the initial data entry phase, the registry has details of 71 training events, ranging from 2008 to upcoming events in 2012. Despite the larger countries of Western Europe (UK, Germany, France, Italy and Netherlands) dominating the entries, Europe is well represented as a whole. The majority of courses delivered outside of the UK are delivered in the country’s native language, occasionally combined with English. The duration of courses varies from less than a half-day to several months. The subject matter of training courses can be broadly categorised into three areas:

• Introduction to the principles of digital curation and preservation;
• Specific methods/tools/services developed by certain project;
• Training on a particular aspect of digital curation. 

The majority of courses tend to be targeted toward a practical audience; fewer courses are targeted specifically at managerial and executive audiences.

The goal of the registry is to create an environment where organisers of training events can post details about upcoming courses for digital curators, in order to help the digital curation community to identify the most suitable events for their needs. Over time, we hope to see the registry grow and become a definitive list of training opportunities.
